"I have seen hundreds of acts over a thirty year period and UK Festivals and Gigs, some of the best names in the world, and I have to say that I was blown away by that on Sunday and it is right up there with Stevie Wonder in my own personal experience of enjoyment at live gigs."

THE CONVULSIONS are a riff heavy punk and funk group with frenetic harmonica, organ and a barking horn section topped off with un-dulcet vocals writhing in hard edged forays into late 60’s boogaloo and deep funk. Lyrics, where audible, offer searing insights into societal absurdities and duplicitous romance. An explosive sweaty stage presence with anywhere in the room game for ad hoc props mark all the shows. Since Oct. 2005 the Convulsions have become based in the UK where they have broken through the British RnB / Blues festival and club circuit to play more eclectic festivals such as Lancaster Music Festival (founded by lead singer Ben Ruth), Off the Tracks, SAM in Serbia, Birmingham Artsfest, Meadowlands, Montrose, Kendal Calling and beer festivals (Keswick, Peterborough, Wokingham, Lancaster) with repeat forays into the US, South America and Eastern Europe.

THE CONVULSIONS headlined the SAM International Music Festival in Vrasac, Serbia and sold out of all their merchandise in 5 minutes (admittedly for two beers a CD). They sold out all their merchandise again at the Dundee Blues Bonanza, and yet again during their residencies in Stockholm.

THE CONVULSIONS have two dated albums (Shaken & Disturbed and Come and Get It! both recorded with the Chicago band) and a 2011 EP of anti-establishment ditties courtesy of Absolute Recordings produced by Mo Whitham (Suzi Quattro’s guitarist). They have one video “I Need This Baby Like A Hole in the Head” and various embarrassing YouTube clips. Having sold out of CDs the Convulsions are now planning a joint album with Get Carter featuring legendary Hammond player James Mackie (Selector, Madness) due for release summer 2016.

THE CONVULSIONS have had distribution in 420 US college radio stations (Shuteye Records). Several songs have featured in two films: Resurrection Mary and Adventure Sex 1 (really! - we await Adventure Sex 2 with anticipation).

THE CONVULSIONS founder Ben Ruth runs an international music agency, CME Artist Services that has become a significant conduit for international acts seeking recognition in the UK and is licensed by the Home Office to facilitate this. The agency also puts on an annual music festival in the band’s home town of Lancaster featuring over 200 acts of all genres and locations in over 40 venues

THE CONVULSIONS are Ben Ruth (vocals, harmonica, organ, Theramin, cuica), Jo Cutler (bass), John Huck (drums), Becca Pattison (tmb), Elly Spiers (alto sax),. Jonathan Vince (tenor sax)
